Sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh advances

Wrestling federation Chief faces charges

The Delhi Police are pushing for charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, over allegations of sexual harassment made by six women wrestlers. Singh's lawyer argued that the Delhi court lacked jurisdiction for offenses outside India, but the police countered that the charges relate to incidents both within and outside the country.

Strong evidence supports charges

Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava emphasized that there is ample evidence, including written complaints and recorded statements, to support charges. The police also noted that Vinod Tomar, a co-accused who worked closely with Singh, facilitated his actions.

Charges include assault and intimidation

The charges include assault with intent to outrage modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. Singh, a six-time Member of Parliament, was granted bail on July 20 after the charges were filed.

This case highlights the issue of harassment in sports organizations and the need for accountability. It underscores the importance of addressing such serious allegations and ensuring justice for the victims.
